Telephone Answering Services
(TAS) and Call Centers offer around the clock services. Their equipments
have to be robust and flexible, to accommodate non-stop running time and
frequent functionality changes. To achieve this power and flexibility,
Szeto Technologies has chosen to develop Call Linx TAS System
on the Linux platform.
What is Linux ? Linux is a computer operating system, like
Microsoft windows. It is developed by Linus Torvalds with the assistance
of other software developers worldwide. Version 1.0 for the kernel was
released in 1994. Continued development has produced version 2.6
in 2004, which has now evolved to 2.6.31 in its latest.
This operating system is distributed under the GNU General Public License,
which means its program source code is available to everyone (open source),
and the software of all its versions is absolutely free.
Why Linux ? Szeto Technologies engineers choose to develop Call
Linx system software on the Linux platform because they believe Linux
stability and capability can best accommodate the need of power, speed and
flexibility in a TAS system. They also believe that a Linux based system
is an ideally cost-effective equipment for a Call Center / TAS Operation.
It is generally accepted that Linux is a stable operating system.
Linux, like many of the software that run on it, is open source and
constantly under peer review. This approach has been proven to have
advantages over closed source software in that the software can be
improved faster and has fewer bugs.
Linux has strong networking capabilities. While most of the basic
computer services (file retrieval, logon, printing, backup etc.) can be
done over the network, Linux allows centralized control of system
administration. This makes system administration easier without
sacrificing any of the benefits of lower cost and better fault tolerance
in a networked environment, as in a TAS/Call Center Operation.
Linux operating system software can be downloaded from the Internet, or
purchased on CD (packaged with installation instructions etc.) from
vendors for a small cost. It can be installed in as many machines as
desired, without incurring licensing costs.
There is a variety of Linux based free application software that rival and
outperform commercially available counterparts. Postgresql is one
such software. Szeto engineers choose Postgresql to manage
the database of Call Linx TAS system. This tool does not only
satisfy the need for swift and easy information access, it adds heights to
utility-over-cost ratio in Call Linx.
